Benefits of Participation & Competition
Provides sense of well being:
Competitive athletics produce a natural “high” caused by the brain’s secretion of endorphins- morphine-like chemicals that help combat pain and stress. This chemical reaction gives an individual a healthy sense of wellbeing.
Promotes self-confidence:
There is something deeply satisfying about realizing our potential, doing our best, making the most of what we have when we are competing. This in turn increases our feelings of self-worth and self-confidence because we feel good about ourselves.
Makes us Feel Alive:
Athletes Serving Athletes offers the means to experience the excitement of competition and the thrill of victory. These experiences help prepare individuals to face the adversity of a disability in their lives and to learn to bounce back in the face of challenge and change. Participation in competitive athletics can improve upon an individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living as well as their psychological state.
